Il Giornale dell’Arte about Galerie Haas at Frieze Masters 2026

Galerie Haas, based in Berlin and Zurich, presents a stand with a unifying theme: the works on display trace the way in which artists, from the late 19th century through to the 20th century, repeatedly returned to the human figure as a subject for observation, experimentation and reinvention. Among the works on display is a magnificent portrait of Gertrude Stein by Picabia, which was exhibited at MoMA alongside Picasso’s famous portrait of the patron. Among the many interesting pieces is also a painting by Lucien Freud, produced when he was just seventeen, in which the brushwork, colours and figurative elements already foreshadow his well-known mature works.
