Biography

Ursula (Schultze-Bluhm) Ulfert Beckert

The artist and poet Ursula Schultze-Bluhm, known as Ursula, is a particularly remarkable artist of the post-war avant-garde with her eccentric and deeply subjective oeuvre. Surrealist and poetic elements are the main motifs of her fantasy worlds.

In meticulous, small-scale drawings and paintings, the self-taught artist created an independent oeuvre that cannot be clearly categorized as Art Brut or Outsider Art, nor as part of other trends in post-war figurative art. Large-format shrine objects and fur-oil assemblages impressively demonstrate the constantly boundary-crossing thinking of this unmistakable female artist.
